About

This blog is about my Cartoons and cartooning.
I am a cartoonist and retired carpenter

I have been drawing for as long as I can remember, starting at home on the walls as a kid and graduating from there.

Several of my cartoons have been published over the years, In 2007 I was fortunate enough to win the open section of the Rotary International Cartooning Competition and again the Sports section in 2011 ,competing among some of the best cartoonist in Australia and overseas.

Hi Ron. I don’t know if this funny comment is any good to you; perhaps a bit too drawn out? The other evening whilst playing a game one of our opponents asked our skip where the second bowl was in retation to the shot bowl. It was duly pointed out with the comment “It’s a measure between them. Bad news is they’re both ours” The action and timing had everyone in hysterics at the time.

    Hi Ron,

Just was browsing through your cartoons and have to say love your work.

    Hi Ron
My son is a very keen lawn bowler and has collected a number of club cloths with the thought I would make him a quilt! With your permission I would like to include your very witty and clever cartoons. Four of them I can see would have him laugh at his own personal bowling experiences. The quilt is solely for his pleasure, it’s not to be exhibited or sold .
I look forward to hearing from you
    Kind Regards
    Anne-Marie Berry

    Hi Ron,
Wonderful cartoons! I’m a member of a small Bowling club at Taupiri, New Zealand. I was wondering if I could have permission to make some small notebooks with one or more of your cartoons on the front cover? These would be used as small raffles that we run when ever we have a Championship day. I would also be prepared to send you a copy of the finished product. Apart for contacting you here I have no other way of getting in touch. I can be contacted by my website http://www.kiwialan.co.nz

    Thanks

    Hi Ron,

The Bigpond email address I had for you is no longer working ?

Thought the following might inspire a Bowls Cartoon

    ******************************************************************

Last night one of our bowlers was stopped by the police at midnight and asked where he was going.

“I’m on the way to listen to a lecture about the effects of alcohol and drug abuse on the human body.”

The policeman asked, “Really? And who’s going to be giving a lecture at this time of night?”

    “My wife”, came the reply.

    Cheers, John

  38. Judith Tuckey says:

Hi Ron. Back in 2013 you very kindly gave me permission to use your cartoons on our Club Website. Unfortunately, the website is no longer running. However, in the meantime I have been writing a bowls notes column in our local free paper and including photos of bowlers etc. when available, so I was wondering if I could use your cartoons, now and then, in my column as I feel it would give my notes more interest, particularly as your cartoons do illustrate some of the wobblies I have witnessed players throw in a moment of madness during and after a game. I look forward to hearing from you. Many thanks. Kindest regards, Judith Tuckey.

  45. Hello Ron

I have only come across your excellent cartoons recently as I am looking for some new ideas to put into two newsletters that I help to put together and they would fit the bill perfectly. The first is for The Rotary Club of Romney Marsh (where I am currently Vice President) and the second is for the local New Romney Bowls Club. Like so many others I would be grateful if you could advise what steps I need to take to obtain your permission to use your images in either or both publications.
    Thank you
    Best wishes
    Trevor Harrison

    Hi Ron,

I really enjoy your cartoons. I am running a Novice competition soon and would really like to add some spirit to the event and share some of the cartoons on the competitions whatsapp group. Please let me know if you are ok with this.

  47. Hi Ron
Your lawn bowls cartoons are great
I run a web site called getagameofbowls.com which is used by over 200 bowling clubs and has information about all 1920. I wrote the software for it in 2007, initially as a place where clubs could advertise their tournaments, and its feature was that tournaments disappeared on the day they were played. Later I included weekly socials of which there are nearly 1000 listed. To make sure they are kept up to date by the clubs I started writing a quarterly newsletter about five years ago and this has now an audience of 780.
One of my sons has been telling me for some time that I should write a book incorporating the coaching and bowls management information on the web site and a selection of the articles in the newsletters. I
Like every one of my age I am in enforced isolation. To fill my days I decided to write an Ebook which I intend to call (perhaps) “Lawn Bowls: The Game For All Ages’
I have now written the first 30 pages of a book which I think will end up about 80. Would you permit me to include a few of your cartoons in it?. I would, of course, give significant credit to you and include a link to your pages.
My get a game site is my retirement hobby as a service to the sport and I have never received any income from it. The ebook would probably be on sale on Amazon and other ebook sites with a price of no more the aud10. I would donate any to my favorite charities.
Please let me know your terms for such entries in the book
